This is by far the largest turning I have ever done -- 13.5 inches high, 9.5 diameter, 19 rings and 217 pieces. It is made of Hard Maple, Cherry, Padauk and Sapele. I turned this on my Delta 46-460.

I have not finished it yet. Normally I just finish my stuff with some type of oil and beale buff, or I might apply a few coats of wipe-on Poly. I can't really decide what to do with this piece. Any suggestions?

Very nice work Bill! I like the design and wood colors! Turning something this large on a Delta 46-460 should raise a few eyebrows!

As far as a finish - poly would provide a level of protection that oil alone can not provide. A good oil-based poly would enhance the grain as well!

Really nice work! Thanks for sharing!

Very nice, Bill. I guess you found out how easy some of this is to do when you suddenly "get over the hump" and figure things out.

I have been putting Antique Oil on everything, but I keep wanting to try spraying lacquer on something.

Bill, that is one impressive piece of work!! I don't know how you segmenting guys do it. Honestly, that much work with little pieces, glue, precision....looks like more than I could handle.

Very nice work, pretty woods, and nice form. To make it all better - did it on a Delta!!!!

Looks good Bill. Nice job on alignment. Have seen many otherwise nice pieces that were spoiled (IMHO) by poor alignment. Might want to radius the bottom edge to give the piece a bit of "lift".

I really like the choice of wood. If it were mine id probably use my favorite lacquer to finish. (deft) but that is me... and I am new...
Very nice though...

Another one of those pieces where I think, what a lot of work! Very well done.
