I would like a router pin on my shop-made table. Do I just friction fit a dowel or metal rod?

How about a T-nut from under the table, glue the apropriate screw into the dowel of your choice and srew it into the t-nut from the top? Just thinkin'.... Ken

I would use metal not wood so the fit stays tight. My pins are 3/8 brass turned down on one end to 1/4" to fit tight in a 1/4" hole in my router plate.

I like the metal ones as well. Mine fit VERY tight.

OK, I could put a t-nut or an insert screw in the table, cut the head off a bolt and screw it in up to the smooth part of the bolt.

I have since found some online, but I don't want to spend $7 shipping for a $4 part that I can make for free with parts on hand.
(I'll buy the real thing later on when for some unknown reason I fail miserably :D )

I use a 5mm drill bit and a matching shelf pin.

That's all you need.

Thanks all. It works and has a nice fit with no play at all.

A nice brass pin came with my router lift but before I went that route, I used a cut off bolt just as you describe. My old Rockler plate had two spots for 1/4" x 20 threads but, a threaded insert should do fine. You do want it really solid though.
