We are having a debate on the best position for the Delta unifence. some people like the edge that is closest to you to stick back about 4 inches with not as much fence beyond the blade so it is easier to square up the piece when starting the cut. Others say that you want as much fence beyond the blade. Our fences are the 54inch long ones. so there is plenty of fence either way. What do the woodworkers here prefer?

I always used mine with the end of the fence rail closest to you even with the base.

I'm with Chris. Seems to be the best way. Once you push longer stock through, you don't have as much control after the blade and the more fence back there, the better in my opinion. Easier to control the piece on your end so not as much fence needed in front. If any of that made sense.

Oh, and just to add. Very nice table setup Chris.

For most stock ripping, I keep the trailing end of the fence about 1 -3" behind the blade. Sheet goods sometimes get different positions.

I like to keep the front flush with the table because it makes it easier to work around the front of the table with out bumping into the fence rail.
