I will be be starting on a low/ long table that will house receivers/disc players/ satellite receivers etc etc. and support a 58" size plasma tv.

As the tv only weighs ~ 110 pounds, I am not concerned about a massive/ reinforced structure.

My question involves using some leftover 3/4 t&g red oak flooring I have from redoing my floors several years ago. I have more than enough to fabricate a top ~ 7' long X 2' wide , shelves and sides ~ 26" tall.

For the top, should I nail the boards to a plywood base ( also 3/4) as I did with the floors/ or glue up the t & g and then drill/screw into the plywood base? I am worried that if I glue the flooring to the plywood, the diff expansion rates will cause problems.

I am thinking of a darker stain than the natural poly I used for the floors.
Any suggestions for something like a Watco fruitwood DO followed by several coats of wipe on poly? I really am open to advice.

I know this sounds funky, but I have a log home, and the use of the flooring material for furniture is not that big a stretch.

thanks!
