Anyone attempted to make their own side rabbet plane? Doesn't seem terribly difficult, but it's small enough, so I could see it being fragile.

I have not tried making any, but the pictures I have seen looks like there is a large body holding the blade and a narrow runner for in the slot.

Some look like they may be more of a scraper than a plane.

its a form of side rebate plane, I built it to clean up the sides of sliding dovetails, the pictures say they were taken 4/4/06.

I saw this user made pair on the ebay.uk some time ago. They are 4.5 inches long and look to be patterned after the 98 and 99. I think it sold in the hundreds.

There is a similar plan in the charles hayward book "how to make woodwork tools" available from toolmera press (http://toolemera.com/Books%20&%20Booklets/booksplans.html)

The above planes look like they could be made without any metal working machines. You might have to buy 01 tool steel flat stock, and make the slot before you harden and temper it.
