Help recording on dvd

I am trying to record a movie from by DVR. I can record it on a vcr side but not on a dvd. I get an error code "cannot record in +vr mode". Can anyone tell me why this is so?

Are you using a DVD RW or DVD R?

I've tried dvd-rw, dvd+r and dvd-rno results. But I have no problem recording to the vcr side.

Is the recording longer than 2 hours? If so, then the recorder will not begin as the movie will not fit. Also, if the movie has anti-piracy coding on it (yes, it will allow recording to DVR but not to a permanent medium) then you may get an error message (altho, usually it is one that clearly states the problem is that recording is not allowed).
Use of name brand discs is recommended as some discs will fail with no reason, the next disc will work - just one of those things, and name brands have a higher usable disc rate.
Finally, have you recorded other movies before? Can you record a tv show to disc?
