another punky wood question

ok,, so hardening punky wood enough to sand it and finish it,, i was going to use glue mixed with DNA, or water, should i put finish on it first so that it will all be the same color?

I just DNA with epoxy Curtis. Don't use water. Also when I use this I paint it on just before the final cuts and also use a surface finish such as poly or lacquer.
