Buckeye Burl with Ebony Pedestal and Finial with Burl inserts in both. 3-1/2" diameter x 8-3/4" tall. Hollowed thru a 1/2" hole. The additional pic is a close up of the finial. As always comments/critiques are welcome.

Keith - amazed at the quality of turnings you consistently create! Very nice touch using a mirror image of the HF in both the pedestal and finial! Wonderful design and details. Very nice work! Really like the double-ended finial!

Thanks for sharing!

Exceptionally nice! Keith, since I am new to this turning thing, the mechanics of some of the processes are foreign to me. How does one finish both ends of a finial?? How do you support the finial while finishing the second end?

So many things to learn!!!

Hey Keith,

Very nicely done. I love how you mirrored the shape of the hollow form in the finials.

I also want to know how you finish of both ends of the finial. Did you make it in 3 pieces and then glue them together?

Doug

Beautiful piece! I especially like the repetitve elements in the finial and pedestal and the follow through on the underside of the finial. I too am curious how you did that? The form is very well done and the balance is quite symmetrical. Gorgeous wood, plus a skilled hand makes this truly a masterpiece.

Beautiful!!!!!!!!!! how do you do that?? I don't see how you can get the final so small without breaking it.Great work.

What type of finish?

Thanks guys for the nice commets.

There are 4 pieces in the pedestal and 3 in the finial. They all use tennons in a drilled hole. The lid/lower "finial" is one piece. The order for turning this was to turn the bottom portion and the collar to fit the opening then start the upper part. Then I reversed it and mounted it in nylon jaws (teknatool) to complete the upper transition. I hope this makes sense.

Pete, antique oil and buffed.

Beautiful. Very delicate looking and probably very lightweight given the buckeye. I really like it.

Keith, I think I have the concept. Perhaps when you do another multi-piece finial, some progress pics would certainly make a nice little tutorial!!:D

Very impressive piece Keith. Great combination with the Buckeye & ebony. The hollow form is very nice and the pedestal & finial are simply fantastic. Very crisp detail. WOW!

Beautiful work Keith! Awesome wood like that deserves the attention you give it. I am amazed by the delicate finial work, any time I try something like that it usually ends up as kindling. Thanks for sharing.

WOW Keith,

This hollow form is just beautiful, and the photography is top notch as well. You are just showing off with the burl inserts on the finials, AND I LIKE IT!
