I've got 52 spindles to put between 8 stretchers (13 per pair). That's a 104 mortises.
Would love to put my Dowelmax to use for this job but the spindles are just 5/8" by 3/4".
The clamping screw on the Dowelmax doesn't even line up with the hole bushings to secure a spindle.
Any ideas?
I thought of making the dowel holes on the end of 3/4" thick wide boards and then cut the spindles after the drilling. But I'm unsure of how to get the required 5/8" widths after.

gang them together and clamp them together so the fit in the dowelmax

you can put a bunch of them between two wide boards (sandwich them) and clamp the wide boards.
But I gotta ask: are you sure a dowel at the end of such a small spindle is a good idea?! If you use 1/4" dowels I'd think they are weak and 3/8" is too big for what you have.
