I bought the fixed and plunge router kit several years ago. I’m either getting lazy or just more easily irritated and am tired of swapping the motor back and forth. I was looking on line for a second motor and didn’t have much luck finding one. It looks as if the motor alone is as much, if not more than just buying a second router.
Any suggestions to where I might a 690 motor at a reasonable price?

I'd post a WTB on as many of these woodworking boards as you can locate, SMC, WoodNet, Wood Central, Woodworking Talk, and there are a few others.

Michael - post for 2 :D and I'll take the second one.
I am in the same position as you are.
BTW - AFAIK, its the same deal on, say, the 75xx - router + base same price as just the motor. Makes no sense to me, but there you are.

I've seen them on eBay. Or you could buy a router on eBay and just use the motor and resell the base.

I bought a second motor the other day (PC 690) for 30 bucks off an online auction. Just cleaned the bushings and it now runs like a charm. Just keep your eye open and you will find one.

If you can buy a new one, toolzone.com should be able to get one for you... but you may have to call.

Sounds like one of you should buy the other out...

Old DW 610 (7625, 7616 also ok) & Bosch 1604 motors will fit in your 1001 casting.
Maybe an everyday Ebay commodity.

that was my thoughts also. I havent seen them every day but i have seen them on ebay and also seen the plunge complete kit for cheap.
For everybody else CPO has a good deal on the pc 892 router 179.99 free shipping and also 10 percent off plus 3 year warranty. brand new not refurb.
I think that is where i am headed friday morning.

I'm beginning to think I just need to buy a different plunge router. I don't care for the depth adjustment on the PC anyway.

Your location doesn't give you as many opportunities as in the lower 48. Here, regularly pawn shops have used versions of the 690 for $35 - $75. Same goes for craiglist.

I picked one up at a pawn shop in Indy 2 years ago for $40. Came with both fixed and plunge bases, a few bits, wrenches, and a carry case. They even let me plug it in and test it. I keep one in my table all the time.
