View Full Version : Segmented lidded bowl

Walnut and Maple with a blackwood finial. Glued these rings up probably a year ago and lost interest so finally got it done while glue was drying on some stave pieces I'm working on. Measures 7 wide 9 high. Mylands finish.

Beautiful piece Mike. Really like the form and the finial is really nice.

Just think, if it was a solid wood bowl, you would only have a couple of more years to wait for it to dry out and turn it, so you are still ahead of the game! :D:D

It is a very nice piece, Mike. I like the way that the lid sits inside and is flush on the outside.

Mike, you really did a great job on the joinery. All the rings step up very evenly, and the rim divisions are dead on! Beautiful piece!

Beautiful! The only critique I have has to do with the solid wood lid. I made a similar one several years ago, and discovered that seasonal humidity changes make it expand/contract a lot more than the segmented vessel. The result with mine was that during winter (low humidity) it was a sloppy fit. During summer (high humidity) it was too tight. Since then I stopped making solid wood lids.
