Made these from Tamboti with Paduak hangars.

The cups were wiped down with acetone and given a sealer coat of shellac followed by 5 coats of Tru-oil gunstock finish. Left as it dried.

Beautiful wood and finish... I've got a piece of that wood somewhere and now I want to go find it.

Gary,

I never thought of turning something like this, they look really good. How do they sound?

Thanks :)

they sound very nice indeed and it's relatively cheap for the original donor phone ($75) but then there's making the head strap, rewiring and all the fiddly bits.

The new wood driver baffles look like this after cutting the drivers from their original thin plastic housing *yay, bandsaw*

looks a bit scratty but it's the bit you don't normally see. Turned and then shaped with a belt sander to match the original shape.

Those are going to a friend in Italy, mine are the blackwood ones I made for myself ;)

I don't sell them, just make them for friends normally though that may change.

Gary, do you have any kind of tutorial, even a basic one, on how you make these? My neighbor is a big audiophile and I'd love to make him a pair (I have ~300 BF of cherry courtesy of their blowdown so I owe him some wood products).

What parts do you make and which do you use from donor phones?

And how does wood affect the sound quality?

Really nice work!
