Ash HFis 8.5X7 and finished with 2coats of water base poly then sanded with 400. I believe this is the ugliest piece of wood I ever mounted on the lathe. Full of mildew stains, bug holes and maybe even some spalting hidden in there. The back side had a large area where the grain had delaminated but not cracked. I'm kind of surprised it made it off the lathe in one piece...Bill..

Michael there are 4 more pieces out on the wood pile. If you can get through the ice and snow you are welcome to them. My fireplace seems to be afraid of them..Bill...

Very nice piece. I like the contrast between the refined form, and the pitiful but beautiful piece of wood. No need for coloring or piercing... just leave it in the woodpile and let mother nature take over!

Bill, you definitely have a great deal of talent to turn this beautiful form on a nasty hunk of wood. Great job!

Bill - you nailed the form! Love it!

To say this wood has character would be a gross understatement! It's is really cool looking and with all the holes in it - I have to wonder if it didn't whistle a tune while you were turning it!

Very interesting HF! Thanks for sharing!

Congrats on what looks like a challenging piece of wood. Beautiful form, and interesting wood. I agree with John - it looks rustic.

Nicely done, Bill. :)
