Same Deal. Turned green, dried and returned. Sanded to 600 grit and finished with Mahoneys Walnut oil. Bowl measures 10 1/2" x 2 5/8".

Great work Mike. I like the nice shallow form. It looks all ready to fill with fruit and put it out on the table.

Mike, I like this one better, I think, than the ash. Really like the turned out lip/rim! Beautiful wood, too.

Hey Mike,

Your bowl looks great. It's simple but you added that nice little flair to the rim.

Another beauty. I like really like the grain, colors and the form.

Another title to this thread might have been "Check out my big 10 inch" :D Now I'm going to have that Aerosmith song in my head all night.

Nice looking bowl, but I'm wondering if you turned away a lot of the most dramatic figure? How did you orient the piece on the lathe? If you dished out the flat face, and chucked the bark side, you lost a lot of the figure which would have appeared at the bottom if you had done it the other way around.

I usually try to make plates or shallow bowls of crotch pieces, preserving the most dramatic grain, even though that usually means a smaller finished product, both in circumference and in depth. Just something to consider with the next one.
