I'm trying laser cut paper stock. I have trouble with soot on the top of the paper and it smells burned.

I think the soot problem can be solved by making a new jig. My jig today is made out of 4mm acrylic. I put the paper in the middle.
If remove the top acrylic i get less soot but problem with fixating the paper. Any tips on jigs for paper? I'm about to cut 36 10x5cm paper sheets at the time.

I don't have any idea about the burning smell.

Hope someone can help.

If you search I posted a jig idea that worked well for me a few months ago. I would not try more than 3-4 sheets at a time. Paper is highly flammable so you need low power high speed to cut cleanly, and I found 4 sheets of colored construction paper to be my maximum without brown edges.

I cut heavy paper (for jewelry box inserts) and to get absolute clean cuts with no charring and no smell whatsoever, I cut just one layer at a time (although you can put them next to each other and cut more per run). Takes a bit more time but the quality is worth it for what we do.
