View Full Version : Australian Burls - wood exchange anyone?

These burls were purchased from Australian Burls. I turned one of the Vasticola today. I thought I would like this wood, but honestly I don't. The colors are a little bright for me, though the grain is phenomenal. They are also very hard. Seems to take a nice tool finish - up to the point where I got it too thin!! Seems they will not go as thin as a softer domestic wood - at least for my minimal tool skills.

So, before I list them in the Classified forum, is anyone interested in a wood exchange? I would prefer domestics.

For what it is worth, I paid the following:
Yorrel $22
Red Gum $49
Corrugata $38
Vasticola $14
Red Mallee $14
Red Morrel Free, but would have cost $7

Tell what you got!! I think all of these will fit in a medium flat rate box.

Have you noticed my giant pile of mesquite in any threads? Cool grain and you can go from a log to a finished bowl in one sitting. No need to dry it!
