I recently learned (thanks to you guys) how to get a burr on a card scraper. I am getting shavings now and not sawdust.
I currently am working on a 4 x 8 x 3/4 piece of live oak from a 250+ year old tree taken down at our church. (Independence Baptist where Sam Houston became a member late in life, but that's another story).
This piece of wood is one of the most dense that I have ever held and planes fairly well with some tearout. I am using a scraper to smooth after planing and it is working extremely well. Will send a picture of the piece after I finish scraping.
Thanks to you Neanderthal guys I am getting slower, but enjoying producing higher quality stuff with a lot less dust.
