Hello,

I am new to using spalted wood. I have purchased some non dry spalted wood blanks for turning duck calls, and need to stop the spalting and dry the wood. I have no idea, nor can I find any info on how to do this. Any help would be a ppreciated.

Thanks
Scott

I'm by no means an expert but I think if you start to dry it in a good spot the spalting will stop pretty quick. I think it was WOOD magazine that did an article on spalted wood and it might just have some info. If not the maybe Fine Woodworking. Try their websites.

Hi John,

Moisture feeds the critters that create the staining and ultimate digestion of the cellulose. Kiln drying would stop it quickly, oven @130 deghrees F. for small pieces, served with a nice Merlot. Saw that on either Norm or Martha's show. Good luck
