Powermatic 81 vs 87

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two Powermatic bandsaws? Both are 20" bandsaws, and it looks like the PM87 was designated as a metal bandsaw, (although it isn't clear what that means exactly). The PM87 often comes with a blade welder/grinder and the speed adjustment dial, but other than that they look very similar to me. (I have never seen either in real life).

Is there any reason that a PM87 wouldn't make an excellent wood working bandsaw?
