Several years ago, I bought and installed about 6 small things that were somewhat like foundation or attic vents. They are the size of a standard concrete block, about 8" x 16". However they are more like a small window that a typical vent. They have a screen instead of louvers and they have a vinyl framed window on the front of them that will flip up. The hardware store where I got them doesn't stock these things any more.

What is the proper terminology for these things? When I look on the web for foundation vents, I don't see anything like them. I also don't find them listed under any kind of window.

Could a burglar fit through them?

Hydro-static vents.

I don't think a burglar could fit through them. (They have a frame, which makes the opening even smaller than 8" x 16".)

I looked at "hydrostatic vents" on the web. My vents?/windows? are not as elaborate as something designed to release water. They are simply a small window. The window has a simple plastic latch. Assuming you mount the unit with the screen facing the inside of the basement or attic, the latch is on the outside of the house.

Right! They are "hopper vents", somewhat like the
"Pittsburgh Corning 16 In. x 8 In. Hopper Vent" http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100318666&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&ci_sku=100318666&ci_src=14110944&cm_mmc=shopping-_-googlebase-_-D22X-_-100318666

except the window covers the entire opening.
