My buddy who lives up here says in California a shop he worked at had a sander that was like agiant orbital sander that you sent face frames through. Appearance wise it looked like a drum sander. Anyone know the name of this type of sander?

DMC Unisand might be what you're looking for. Two large internal pads, each with a different grit sandpaper, and rotating brush at the outfeed end.

Timesavers also makes one. Picture two pads about 6" x 37" that rotate in a small circle with a large brush at the back of the machine. We had one at the shop and were less than impressed with it. The issues were numerous, the biggest one being material being fed had to be within .005" or the heads would take too much wear and tear.

5 thousandth? We're talking about wood here, right? Or do you mean 5 hundredths?
