Has anyone heard of a #3 type study? this one is blowing the #4 type study away and it's puzzling me...
it is a type 13 plane (high knob without raised ring, one patent date on bed, large adjusting wheel, Bailey in straight line across toe) but it has the type 16 feature of a raised receiver for the tote. there is no raised ring around the knob like we'd see on a type 15 or 16 plane.
maybe it's just your average joe. i've never seen a #3 type study though, so i have no idea.

It'd be helpful to see more pics of the frog, blade, lever cap, etc.

Everything on the plane is spec and type 13 except for the raised boss for the tote, which didnt come around until type 16. That is the only type 16 feature it has.

Is the sole thicker than a normal type 13?

I wonder if this was one made for the British market.

A lot of the mold forms were just pieces that were put together. This may be an early prototype or a foundry mistake.
