I may have the opportunity to purchase a used Powermatic 3520A. I have not seen it yet but it is supposedly almost new. The gentleman is asking $2600. What is everyone's opinion, is that a good deal? I am saving for a new 3520B but would consider this one if I thought it was a good deal. There seems to be a wide variety of prices on new ones. Also, this is local so I would save on shipping.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

That seems a bit high to me. I bought my 3520B not quite three years ago and paid the same amount for it brand new. I'm not sure when they quite making the "A" model but I would find it odd if the "A" cost that much new.

Maybe Robo Hippy will see this and chiime in, I believe he has the "A" model.

I agree, it seems high to me. Bought the 3250B last April for 2800 at Western Tool including bed extension, dust collector and that sign.

I'm with the others......it seems a little high priced. I bought my 3520B last spring for $2800.

Definitely agree that it's way too high. I am not sure I'd pay more than $1800 for it, cuz otherwise I would try to save up for a new 3520B.

I agree it seems high but what does it come with? Is the buyer throwing in any gouges or sharpening equipment or chucks? If he's getting rid of a 3520 he's obviously getting all the way out and not upgrading most likely so It probley has more stuff included. I expect that lathe is in the $1500- 2000 dollar range by itself used. Add some goodies and it could be a decent price. Also just remember that it's just the asking price. Make an offer. He might surprise you.

The price would depend on what comes with the lathe. If it's just the lathe only, that's more than the 3520A sold for new. But if there are a some chucks, tools, etc then it might sweeten the deal somewhat.

During the last sale just before Christmas I bought a new 3520b from ToolNut.com for $2600. Shipped. No tax.

So, yes, a little high.

OK, that is good to know. Thanks for the help. I think I'll just go with a new 3520B when I have all my pennies saved.
