I thought is was a type of long-leaf pine... some have told me it's not...

Hard to tell from the pic but could be Cypress. I used some Cypress recently and it looks a lot like pine but may have some tight grain in places.

Pic is from my blackberry... I have some more pieces, I'll have to have LOML take a few pics with the D40 and post again

Cypress... never thought of that one!

Are you sure it is all the same type of wood? It looks like a mut panel.

How soft is it. Can it hand scraped? . . . literally. . . using your fingernail. In other words, can you scrape it with your nail and have it pile up?

It looks like Ponderosa Pine sp? to me. I am pretty sure it is not long leaf pine.

+1. It doesn't look like cypress or SYP that I've worked with.

The subdued growth rings and the sudden changes to pink indicate to me this would be white pine.
