I received this sander for Christmas. Nice wife and Son. I need to know how to make or where to get some sort of dust collection for the drums. This works great but it creates a ton of fine dust and I have to use it out side. I would like it if I didn't have to do that. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Here's (http://www.pennstateind.com/store/DLHOODC2.html?mybuyscid=8304343292) one solution. And another (http://www.pennstateind.com/store/DCBIGRED.html?mybuyscid=8304343292) one.

I would build a plywood box simliar to the commerical products in the previous post.. Notice where the dust tends to come off, you can put the hose there.

You could probably remove the sander from the base, bolt a plywood base on the stand, and then reattach the sander, so you have a firm base to make your DC boxes.. Obviously, you might need longer bolts.

What kind of dust collector do you have, and what sized duct?

I'm not trying to steer this into a big discussion about static pressure, etc. But in my experience, big open boxes like the ones above aren't very effective if you have them on a 1hp dc with 4" duct.

If you have a 3hp DC with 6" ducting (i.e. moving air at a high velocity and high volume), it might work ok. But you will still want the duct opening to be as close as possible to where the sanding is occurring. I would think that just plumbing a duct a few inches away from the sanding drum would be more effective.

If you want to go with a hood setup like that, a squirrel cage type blower that moves a lot of air at a lower velocity will probably work better than DC.

Just my opinion though.

If you plan to build a base for it, say out of plywood, then you can do what I did. Get a duct register vent that goes from a 4" x 12" rectangle to a 4" circle. Just connect your 4" hose to that! I must say that the edges can be a little sharp, so do two things: do a quick sand to get the edge off, and use that liquid tape stuff (electrical aisle at the Borg) around the edges. Here's how I did it... This pic was taken before I put the liquid tape on.

Woodcraft has these (http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2005854/17835/Dust-Hood-With-Stand.aspx)
Bought one last year, but it's still in the box, so I can't speak as to how well it works.
