I have a lead on an older Grizzly 20" planer, single phase. Looks to be in good shape. I think the comperable new model is around $1500. What price would you say is "too good to pass up"?

$500 or less I would think would be no brainer. $450 if it needs blades.

Depends on how old and what condition Dan.. 1/2 price for used is fair if in good condition add another 10-15% (negotiable) if in pristine condition. I think I would offer $575 if you find it in good condition to see what response you get but.. if he isn't taking go up to $650 if in mint condition considering it is older. I would take to stock with me to run through to check feed rollers.. ect.

BTW... I purchased a set of blades for the idenical planer (mine is a York-craft) from Holbren several months ago. The set cost around $90 if my memory serves me correctly.

Good luck...

I got a G1033 20" planer in decent shape (mag switch was semi-busted) for $350. :)

The sad part is that the durn thing is so heavy I can't get it down my stairs into my basement shop. So it is sitting in my garage. Where it can be used, but is a major PITA. So I'm still using a Ridgid lunchbox planer for the most part.

So, Eric, you'll let a local fellow Creeker have it for $400? Hmmmm, wonder what I could get for my 15" Woodtek? Bought it for $425 and got her purring. Hey, wanna swap!? I'll load mine onto my truck, bring it down to you, and load up yours (with my tractor). I'll even help you get the 15" into your basement...

Bit steep I'd say, I looked at a 24" powermatic last week that would probably go for about that. Big trouble would be moving it :D

Look on Craigslist for some movers. I paid some guys $90 to bring my 20" Jet planer down to the basement. Money well spent. They did a great job and I didn't kill myself or my friends..

I'm not sure around $500 for a used 20" planer in good condition is that realistic though. Sure, it would be a gloat, but I'm not sure the seller would take that.

I paid 1000 for my PM 20" with a mobile stand. I got it about %50 of new. I think thats a good deal. On a griz I would say 650 is great 750 isnt bad. Not alot of folks around have 20" planers , you can get some pretty big stuff through it.

I think half price to 60% is reasonable if the machine is in good working order.

Look on Craigslist for some movers.

The garage is actually full of furniture supposedly getting moved somewhere else, and I figured that when the movers came to do that, I'd add on getting them to move the planer. That was supposed to happen... oh... about a year ago. Death by papercuts and two week extensions.

The damn thing does weigh like 700+ lbs, too. It is sort of a bear.

Yeah, that's about what mine weighted too..

Your garage is packed full of junk? I'm shocked. :D

Mine is full of maple.. I have a little alley for the kids' bikes and to walk out. That's it :D

So, Eric, I guess that's a no, huh?
