Can you make through mortises with the mortise pal, and if so how? Where do you buy your router bits to use with it? Thanks

The moritse pal website sells "long reach" router bits from whiteside. I couldn't find on the website how deep you could reasonably go with these. As for a through mortise I don't see why not. You might need to route from both sides depending on how thick your stock is.

Because the Mortise Pal is so good and using a reference you can make the mortise from both sides.

I have only done this 2 times but it worked very well.

Cut the first one on the one side as deep as you can and then on the other side do the same, if they do not meet, which mine did not I just used a brad point bit and drilled the part out in the center that did not meet.

Make sure you use the same side of the board as the reference when putting the Mortise Pal on to cut the second side.

Then I cleaned the inside up with a chisel.

thanks for the input. I did not want to buy a long bit if the results of going from both sides was not going to be worth it. Boy the 1/2" dia long bits are pricy
