Randall,

Don't know what kind of wood that is, but sure does not look like firewood to me. Hope someone can put it to better use. It looks like it would make some interesting bowls and other items. I can see some natural edge bowl with dark base and white upper as one use for sure. How big is it and do you want to send a flat rate box to Texas? Send me PM.

Looks like some nice walnut! I hope you are burning this because you have lots of bigger pieces.

Thomas,
PLEASE do not burn that wood. Sell it or give it to turners for the cost of shipping.

The Gold Nugget Casino in Vegas has several gold nuggets on display with the history of each. One very large nugget embedded in stone was used for years as a door stop in an old cabin because the owner did not know what he had.

One man's firewood is another man's gold. Please don't post photos of this wood going into the fire. I'm afraid the tears falling on my keyboard would short out my laptop. :(

It looks like it could be a rose wood.

Where is "Springs, NY"?

Are you in Saratoga Springs? If so, I'm roughly a half hour south of you.

Randall, having seen many examples of your work, my guess is that this is actually one of your carvings, painted to simulate a wheelbarrow full of wood!!!:D:D;) Your stuff looks that real!!

"springs" is a little town on far eastern long island out near montauk. i wish i knew who left it here and i could try to get more. i also wish it wasnt cut up for firewood but i cant undo that. im going to give some to a friend who builds custom fishing rods. he made me a beautiful sailfish rod with an ebony butt. cut on a diagonal and turned it could be very cool. the rest will get saved.

thanks john....right now i have a shattered right wrist and am working lefty...........that would be a bit ambitious.

Hey Randall, I live on long island and I would come out there in a minute to grab those half logs if you are interested in getting rid of them.
