Well not exactly a work of art but a work in progress. I am calling it a "mushroom with an attitude". I really don't know what it is. Some day I might actually try drawing one before turning it. Seems to be rather relaxing at times. (Depending on the number of catches) I took a break from a small entertainment center I was working on. It is obviously not finished. More sanding needed and touch ups. Comments welcome. Spalted and figured oak with walnut. Walnut dust/ shavings mixed with epoxy for inlays. About 1/4" thick walls. Have a good day.

I like it. Looks like a great place to hide a candle. Very pretty wood combo.

Elevated lidded box? If you don't know what it is, it must be art.

Unique, to say the least!! I like it. Does look sorta like a lamp... Nice work using the dust and glue for the inlays! I think it's a keeper!!

Clever little piece, nicely done. I'd call it a lamp-dish or, as kevin said, a lidded chalice.

Ron - interesting concept! How tall is it?

Would make for a great center piece or covered candy dish! Nice combination of woods, colors and finish! Will be interesting to see where you take this form!

Steve, I'll have to measure it when I get home tomorrow. I had intended on making the walnut section shorter but got carried away with the whole piece. Whatever was between centers.:)

Sorry for the lack of information. The over all height is approx. 13" and the dia. of the box is approx. 6". The walnut section is taller than what I had wanted. I used that for practicing technique. I didn't have a thick enough piece for the base, hence the spalted figured oak base. Best wishes to all.:)
