A friend of mine dropped off a couple of pieces of wood for me. It looks like it will be some incredible looking wood. Neither of us knew what it was though. The tree had no leaves left when he took it down. Here are some pictures of it.

Can anyone identify this? The heartwood has those lines/rings through the middle of it. They range in color from a burgandy to a blood red. Any idea's would be greatly appreciated. The photos are bad but its from my phone in the garage.

Whatever its is called, it will be Christmas ornaments next year. I can't wait for it to dry. I think it will look incredible with some purpleheart or bloodwood finails.

Thanks Kirk

Can't see pictures - just boxes with question marks.

Kirk,
It looks like Pistachio to me. Only turned a couple pieces but they looked like yours.

Ray I appreciate your input but this is from a tree in Alaska I have never heard of Pistachio trees up here.

Any other guess's

I can't get the pic to show full size, but it looks like some sort of cedar from the log ends. I would guess that up in Alaska you have some varieties that most of us have never seen.

I can't tell anything from a 1" X 1½" picture, you'll have to do better than that for me to even try, sorry

Leo first I heard the pics were too small, but thanks for the heads up. They looked fine on my computer at home.

Looks like red elm looking at the ends, but for some reason when I click on the pics they won't bring up a bigger pic.
So I'm not sure.
