Greetings,

I took a mini holiday to build a cabinet for Myself ;)

Western curly maple veneer, cherry veneer and "pitchy" cherry solids.

Oil and lacquer finish.

Very nice! And, I really like the style. The maple is beautiful, and that oil and lacquer certainly was the right recipe. Great job!

Thank you very much gentlemen for your comments.

It would have been nice to not have to worry about time but I can't afford my own work, sigh...

If this was for a paying client or I didn't have pressing commissions I would have made the following changes... ;)

On the exterior I had planned to use the center divider as an opportunity to have the handles emerge from the surface. The hand turned ebony knobs wasn't much of a compromise and I used a "normal" piece of cherry for the divider and left the marks from hand planing it to shape.

I used an older design for the top and bottom mouldings, at the dry fit stage I didn't like how the bottom double moulding looked so I ommitted it. In hindsight I would have made the top moulding as a one piece table saw cut moulding.

On the interior I would have liked to have a wood back and used a french cleat mount..

Knife hinges would have been nice but the European ones just work so well and are invisible till you open the door...

Small details but...

Beautiful! At first glance it reminded me just a bit of Mr. Krenov's style - not exactly in the design aspect, but in the care with which the material is used to great effect.
