Hello all, This Is my first post In here as well:)

I wanted to have a natural type of edge...But I think I cut too far In

I'm wondering If I can make the edge look more natural, maybe by burning the rim a bit
I just need some overall help on this to make It look a bit better:)

Thanks In advance

I think you have a great looking bowl going there. I would try using a coping saw to try and make the edge match up with the rest of the nature edge. If it shows saw marks that don't burn out with a torch you could use a bastard cut file to smooth it up a little. I would than sand the inside and outside of the bowl leaving the burnt rim. It should look great. I have burnt the rim on a set of oak burl bowls to cover up the few pieces of bark I knocked off during sanding them. No one can tell that the edge has any bark missing.
Good Luck,
Jack

Thanks Jack, I haven't done any sanding on the bowl yet, there were some dry cracks In the burl, but I filled them with CA. glue
I will try to get the edge looking more natural In the am.
Thanks for the tips

This Is a Briar root burl.....I have 1 more to try after this one:)

Daner, I think Jack's idea is spot on. I would add that when you make the cuts, don't do them at 90* to the face of the bowl, but cut them at various angle to mimic the part of the NE that remains. Add something for texture on the surface of the cut areas - maybe some glue and rough sawdust? Throw on a little black and brown acrylic maybe, and I think you could make your own NE!!

That burl should really be a showpiece when it is finished!

The briar root burl looks interesting - bet you need to sharpen the ol' gouge a few times with that one!!

You're off to a great start... I agree with the saw, file, and burn suggestion. I'm looking forward to the finished pics.

My vote is also to saw and torch. Please show us what you send up with!

Welcome to the Creek.

I have always thought that if you cannot hide something you should show it off. Have you considered highlighting the finished edge some how. To me that would give it the look of an ancient relic and make it a little mysterious. Besides, if that doesnt work you can still cut and burn it.

Be sure to post picture after you finish.

I like Glenn's idea. Finish the edge perfectly and let the contrast create visual tension.
