craftsman 15" VS lathe

I was in Sears today looking around and saw they had the big honking 15" VS lathe going on clearance for $399, is this lathe worth it at this price? Looks like it's a mechanical VS rather than electronic using adjustable pulleys.

This not user friendly lathe, the speed is made using gears and is very noisy and the earely ones did not have hole through the head stock making it difficult to remove a drive spur or a chuck on a taper.
