The weather was nice today, so I took off early, loaded up the chainsaw and went back to the "Gold Mine." This was today's haul!!:D
138876
138877
138878
138879
138880

Some of these pieces have a little punky place here and there, but there is at least one good blank in each piece, and two in some. Even got some longer pieces for vase shapes.

There is at least this much left, and I will go back for more. I think I am ready to do some creeker wood exchanges!

John - looks great! Get all you can! Just like you already figured - when part of the wood is punky - the center piece is usually still good! Have fun with it but watch your back - that's lots of lifting!

Looks like you got some nice size pieces with more than enough spalting. Plenty of possibilities!

Just unloaded them in the storage area of the shop building - 28 pieces in all!! I didn't realize I had that many!:confused: Not sure what I am going to do with all of this, and the rest I know I am going to get in the next load.

I guess I will have to do some rearranging in the barn, and find a home for these. They need to be cleaned up and trimmed before being stored.

John, youre going to need one of theseDavid, does this mean I need a bigger shop!!!!:D:D Wait 'till I tell the wife about that!!! No tellin' how many planes and other toys I would have to sell to justify that sucker!!

Thanks for letting me share this haul with you guys. I am looking forward to getting this stuff cleaned up, but more importantly, spinning a piece of it on the Delta!! Just hope it looks as good finished as it does rough.

Weather is not going to be great for the remainder of the week, but this coming weekend, I hope to make one more, and final, trip to the mine to see what else I can salvage.

John, Now as a woodturner, you look at the ugliest and wierdest pieces of wood instead of the flat perfect planks of a flat worker! I know this first hand and you will be driving along and see the forest and see nothing but turning blanks!

Nice haul and have fun,

Jeff

When you have just one chunk of special wood the pucker factor can really go up when you throw it onto the lath. I'd say with that much wood your pucker factor should be rather low.

John,

You better get turning. Oh, wait, do you have a lathe yet?:D

Or you can always send some up to Minnesota. I'd be glad to share it with the other Creekers up here.
