Has anyone used heat-treated hardwoods (http://composite.about.com/library/PR/2001/bltekes1.htm?

I am curious as to the price, especially poplar, and how it machines and works.

"Wood Magazine" just had an article on this method of treating wood. Apparently it is fairly wide spread in Europe, but just being looked at here. It is supposed to be a replacement for some treated lumber. "Wood" mentioned it has not yet been certified and is not widely available. Apparently most of the wood is yellow pine and the wood gets more brittle and more dimensionally stable after the treatment.

I used to use a lot of "heat treated" pallet wood that I salvaged from work. Don't know if that is the same treatment that you are talking about. Ours was HT to kill off insects for trans-border shipments
Machined just fine, except for those pesky twist nails.
