My shop built fence is 3 inches tall, but the next iteration will be more like 6 or 8.

Here is a pic of mine when I first built it. The t-tracks are great for securing featherboards. I guess it is 7-8", raining to hard for me to go out and measure.

The router table (http://home.roadrunner.com/%7Ejeffnann/WoodWorking/Shop/Shop.html#Router_Table_) I built has (re)movable faces mounted to the fence - one set is 4" tall, the other set is 10" tall.

I assume by the <6" you accually mean >6". I can't fully remember, but it is so close to 6" that I chose >6" because I wish it was taller. Drawer locks and miter locks are more easily done on a tall fence and the t track for featherboards needs a taller fence.

My every-day fence is something like 3" high but I have made taller ones for applications like flush trimming that will bolt on for the job.

My regular fence is about 3" tall, but I also made one 15" for cutting the tails on sliding dovetails on long shelves.

~3.5" (http://patwarner.com/images/rtf_opener.jpg), can be adjusted up or down x 1.5".

I bought one of the Rockler closeout fences. I replaced the MDF faces with taller shop built faces using HDPE. I like that much better.

I like the taller fence as it seems to give me more stability - particularly when running raised panels with a vertical bit.

I've got the Incra LS positioner system that has the added on "rail", so it's not a solid fence all the way up, but I believe that section is about 8". Jim.
