A one-hour drive each way in a hideous downpour, this thing better be worth it

A shot of my old faithful Grizzly 1023SL, already stripped of its Incra fence, eyeing the interloper ...

Nice box, Cliff, but it is apparent from your dust-free shop that you don't actually cut wood in there .

Isn't that the truth ;) I wish my shop looked like that. Is that a tool display building? Or a workshop?

Actually, when I got the SS home I spent three hours cleaning up so I'd have a nice area to assemble it, plus another hour or so getting the Grizzly ready to sell. Here's a more typical view ...

Congratulations Cliff. Once you get the SS set up the trip in the rain will have been worth it. Enjoy.

Cliff:

Congratulations on the saw. Why did you go with a PCS rather than an ICS? I am in the midst of making this decision and was wondering if you could share your thought process. Thanks

LOL!! "Eyeing the interloper"!! The shot is framed perfectly for that, love it. Enjoy the new saw, and try not to bust any knuckles assembling it.

Actually,my own shop is so cluttered that I have refrained from putting pics up here. ESPECIALLY the workbench which I made of very heavy 4" beech, with 4"X6" legs, and would like to show.

Enjoy your new saw! Assembling it will be a joy. Everything is beautifully labeled and the directions are the best.

Why did you go with a PCS rather than an ICS?

Since my dealer sells so few ICSs, they don't stock them. So I would have had to pay $600 shipping from SS to the dealer. I had someone who would take the SS fence for $350. So between the cash for the fence I didn't need and the shipping I avoided, the ICS would have been $1200 more and I just didn't feel like the ICS's larger table was worth that much. I don't feel the ICS's extra "toughness" would ever come into play for me, so I "settled" for the PCS. If it hadn't been for the shipping, I may well have gone for the ICS instead.

Oh yes. I *love* the Incra fence system.

Are the sawstop prices "fixed" like Kreg or Apple products? Or are the online prices that I am seeing significantly less than what a dealer will charge (ignoring any shipping).

FWIW, I would be looking at the 36in contractors saw if I got one any time in the near future.

Nevermind!

The info in this thread seems to answer my question:

Congratulations on the new saw. By the way, your second photo is still way cleaner than any shop I have been associated with. Do you have a "cleaning lady"?
