View Full Version : What is the difference between W1742 and G0453 planers?

I have been waiting for the right time to buy a Grizzly G0453 planer. I found a used Shop Fox W1742 planer here locally for a fairly good price. It looks to be almost the same, but not quite.

Does anyone know of any serious differences between the two? All I could see is 1) no rubber boots on the corner posts, and 2) different power switch. The online manuals are also different.

Oh yeah, the build date is 6/2006.

Thanks,
Bill

Please identify the machine type in the subject. I don't memorize manufacturer catalogs.

BIG DIFFERENCE is Color! Shop Fox is Grizzly's machine sold by independent dealers. The machines share virtually all identical parts (as do all Chiwan 15" planers)

I did not see boot covers on either 15" model in current advertising. Only other difference to the eye is how the on/off control is mounted. Griz mounts the starter up front. Shop Fox mounts a steel *push button control arm* up front with the starter down inside the base.

Main issue would be PRICE. Used is cheaper than NEW!
