Dado repair and sharpening.

Got a call yesterday from a guy who just wanted the left blade for an 8”
Systimatic Dado set. Turns out he just had a couple chipped teeth. I suggested he see about getting the teeth replaced first. He didn’t realize that could be done.

Basically one chipped tooth probably won’t make any important difference in how a saw cuts. A couple teeth will and generally can be replaced for somewhere between one and two dollars each.

If you have shoulders ripped off (there is a break through the steel) you probably can’t find anyone to repair it due to OSHA regulations. It used to be common practice to build up shoulders that had been ripped off by welding and to drill the end of a crack so it doesn’t run any farther. The best shops will not do this because it simply cannot be done well enough to bring the blade back to its original condition. It is also a very dangerous practice. Finally OSHA prohibits it. OSHA regulations Federal Register part 11; Department of labor (OSHA); Title 29, chapter XVII; Section 1910.213; Paragraph (S);

Finally you should always get your Dado set sharpened as a set. Even if you don’t use some spacers much you still want them to match when you do use them.
