I have a project where I will be making ~15-20 raised panels out of oak. I have a PC 690 1.75hp router already, which will not work for this application. So I need to purchase a larger router with speed control to put into a table for making these panels.

Is the 892 - 2.25 hp version enough, or should I go all the way up to the 7518 - 3 hp model? Anyone have both who can give a quick synopsis of the pros cons of each of these?

FWIW- I grew up using PC routers and am not interested in anything else, for better or for worse.

thanks

Kirk

I use an 890 in my table.

the 2 1/4 but I do have the 7518 in my main router table. You can make RP's with the smaller routers just fine. In fact I still use 3 passes with my 7518 with the last pass a very light one but I think if you're going to make a lot of panels or want not to have to worry about replacing a motor anytime soon - the 7518 is a real work horse. Why not just bite the bullet one time?

I also have the 3 1/4 HP Bosch and a 3 HP Freud in other tables that work just fine too.

I have a pair of 75182's. I notice they don't offer that anymore as it's a varible speed product. The 7518 is a 5 speed, soft start. Great machines.
