Shellac

I have read different articles on finishing techniqes and it might mention that a certain pound shellac was used such as a 1lb shellac. What exactly does that mean?

It’s referring to the number of pounds of shellac resin dissolved in one gallon of alcohol. More pounds = thicker. Here’s a link.
