The latest thread labeled New Lathe mentioned the 1642 2 horsepower is rumored to being discontinued. Is this just a rumor or has this been confirmed. I would like to get this lathe also but cannot until the April time frame. I am currently in Florida for the winter and could get the lathe shipped to my Son's house but would rather wait until April. I had heard this before but it appeared at that time it was more of a speculation than a fact.

It would be interesting to hear what WMH Tools, Elgin, IL, would say if you called and asked. Not saying they would tell you their plans, but they might.

If you go to the Jet/Wilton site (http://www.jetwilton.com/us/manufacturing/en/products.html?node=333&category=333) you will not see the 2hp lathe listed. The 1 1/2hp version is still there.

I just visited their website and the lathe is still listed along with a 5 year warranty! This subject pops up from time to time - but nothing has been confirmed as far as I know.

Page 2, model 708360 is the 220 volt, 2 hp version.

Right! I missed that it was 2 pages.

Negative men. They are not to be discontinued. Little birdie told me

Hard to imagine why they would discontinue the 2-hp model - it is simply installing a different motor and controller as everything else is the same.

I asked the manager at the local Woodcraft store and he was not aware of any plans to discontinue the 2 hp model.

That's true. If they kept the 1.5HP model, it would cost almost nothing to keep the 2HP version too. It's the best bang-for-the-buck lathe out there.

Thanks for the reassurance. I also could not understand why a company would get rid of such a popular model unless they were going to offer something in its place.
