View Full Version : Need ideas for Biesemeyer-mounted router table fence

Have tried a couple of prototypes, but none are ideal.

Looking for a simple router table fence design that will easily attach to my tablesaw's Biesemeyer fence. My router table is a cast-iron extension wing and clamping a fence to the table doesn't work well (though I can do it in a pinch).

Please share pictures if you have them. Thanks!

Jason

Jason, I made a split style router fence that I clamp to the right side of my table saw fence to use with my extension table mounted router and it works great.

Here's the original post with pics - http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=28574

I even wrote up a measured drawing. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the PDF.

Nice!

What about aftermarket fences (factory-made)? Anybody here find a way to attach one to a Biesemeyer?

Get a couple fence clamps like these from Rockler.138206 Should be able to adapt just about any router fence to the Biese with them. Even if you have to scab in a piece of 3/4 on the router fence to hook on to. Jim.

I used a pair of Grip-tite fence clamps. Hard to tell from the pic, but it's a 3 sided box, I jointed 1 corner, ran the unit through my drum sander to be square. Butchered up a shop vac floor sweep for the dust collection. This is the first picture, I had to seriously modify the bit cutout area. Sealed the vac area with Great Stuff. I also rabbeted the bottom for a place for dust to go.
Works pretty good, made 4 raised door panels, 1 of the 16 corners has an air gap.

Hope that is what you're thinking of.

Jason - My current RT fence replaces the face of a Jet Exacta II and works out pretty well. I bought this as an aftermarket item, but it's not too hard to build something similar.

Here's one that I built a couple of years ago...6" clamps hold it to the fence:

Scott, who makes the one on your JET?

Here's (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showpost.php?p=540002&postcount=5) the one I made. I added a dust cover/port and later converted to the Rockler clamps Jim posted which are easier. And even more recently I built a standalone router table because having the router in the extension table meant knocking down the setup to use the saw. I'm keeping the TS mounted stuff for when I want two setups because it does work well other than that inconvenience.

I got a HTC HMS-400 for $19 when htc had all their stuff on sale last year. It's similar to what Scott showed. here's a link showing it. http://woodworking-n-more.com/Tools.aspx

Sorry I don't have a picture available right now, but I drilled and tapped the top of my fence (the Shop Fox Bies clone) to fit a Rockler T-track. It just so happens that the top of the T track is flush with the tops of the faces, so I can use it to clamp all sorts of plywood fixtures and hold-downs to my fence. The fence has lots of metal in it and it threads nicely. I used 10-32 threads. I use an H shaped piece that sandwiches the fence on both sides and has holes for T-bolts to fit in the slot. I built up the table saw side as a sacrificial dado fence and the router bit side as a sacrificial panel raising fence. The nifty part of building the H shaped sacrificial fence is that I can leave the clamp bolt loose and use it as a sled. It works great for end grain operations and raising vertical panels.

Now I drilled and tapped the table to fit the split fence from a Delta shaper so I don't use the Bies as a router fence much but I still use it for the table saw.

Jeremy,
That is REALLY cool! I'm saving those pictures and will definitely be using some of your design ideas. Thanks for sharing them.

I don't know, I still haven't made a table saw extension yet, for $19 even if I don't use it I'm not out much. Before I spent much on one I think you would want to see it in person. Ideally it fastens with clips that slips over screw heads screwed into the fence. You can find the manual for it a HTC's web site. I don't think I would destroy your fence for it.

Jim, I have some of these and I am not so sure it would work. They don't clamp the board reliably at 90 degrees. Maybe it is just mine, or maybe I drilled sloppy holes but I am not so sure. I don't think the clamp applies pressure on exactly the same height on both sides. If you have a UHMW PE fence (like you do now :)) clamping it down hard results in rotating sacrificial fence (because the UHMW PE compresses).

<edit> after reading the rest of the posts it looks like more than one person has been successful with this. I will go take another look at my clamps and see what I am doing wrong :).
