True story:

While on a remote fishing trip in Alaska, a plane gets chewed by bear. The pilot calls another pilot for a case of tape, plastic wrap and a pair of tires. It's flown home.

if you think about it, some of the metal on planes isnt much more than heavy foil. it just needs to stay on and be supported right

My understanding is while duct tape is used in planes (insides on seams), it is supposed to have the FAA approval number on it.

Randel,
If it has the FAA # on it, it's not duct tape, it's just "plain" tape.:D

are popular in bush operations--the covering is easily repaired, and a "rag & tube" structure are surprisingly strong for lower speed aircraft. The "canvas" is actually a fairly thin synthetic covered with "dope" that causes the fabric envelope to shrink and become taut over the tube frame.
