I'm in the process of constructing a split fence for my new router table, but I'm a bit on the fence on how to finish the fence sections.

The fence sections are MDF, and I feel they will wear too quickly if left unfinished. Has anyone just paste-waxed MDF? How's it hold up?

Alternatively, I have a sheet of 1/4 UHMW lying around, so facing it with that is an option too... what works well for bonding UHMW?

Any opinions/recommendations?

Jon,
I have the benchdog fence with the mdf faces. In four years, the only wear is at the inner edges where the bit has hit. I think you are over thinking things.

MDF will soak up a lot of wax. I usually wipe on a coat of varnish, then wax for slickness. If that's a real word:D
