Hi Guys,

Long time surfer and a new member!

I need some help please. I have a couple of turnings i need to cap with brass ferrules. I have been looking for the ones i have pictured but cant seem to find them.

The one are made of solid brass and are pretty heavy. I took a couple of pics with a tape (sorry couldn't make it to the garage for my mic i'm post knee surgery and cant do steps yet!).

Thanks for the help in advance!

Another source is the plumbing department if you don't mind turning the brass. I use 5/8" & 3/4" compression nuts for tool ferrules. Turn the tenon to just take the threads, screw the compression nut on then turn the nut round with a scraper.

But if you can't get to your mic maybe you can't get to the lathe either?

Thanks for the info!

John, nope not gonna be able to make it out there for some time!

The ferrules i have are pretty hefty! The one without the lip has a 1/4" wall and the one with a lip has a 1/8" wall. They were off an old hand made table.

I looked at Kens links (thanks for trying!!!) but not even close to what i have.

Thanks again for the help!

Byron, They sort of look like some sort of a bushing almost or they were specifically made for the old table. I think your best bet would be to contact a machine shop and have them made for you. Or you could get some brass rod and turn them yourself on the wood lathe. Brass turns pretty easy, but to get more precise a metal lathe wood do better. How many of them do you need and what are they for? Maybe someone out there has an idea.

Byron,

I did a search this morning. Those are most like called furniture ferrules or table leg ferrules....or furniture leg caps or ferrules.

I was able to find some very similar to the one with the flange at the top but they also had screw holes.

Good luck!

Thanks Ken, I have been looking "surfing" for them also! I have found a couple that were similar but not 100%. At this point I don't need 100% :)
The ones i have have a screw hole in the bottom.

Can you post a link? I spent 3-4 hours surfing last night ans struck out!

Jeff, I was thinking the same thing! Just was worried about the cost!

Thanks again guys!!!

Well thanks again for all the help guys! I am thinking after at least 8 hours of surfing the web, the ferrules are a custom job! So I am going to either mill them myself or check a couple of local shops.

Thanks again for the help!!!

Here some more but....earlier I found a site and I'm trying to find it again. They had drawings and they were identical to the dimensions you show but they had screw holes coming in under the flanges.

Buy tubing, cut it, turn it to trim and dress it.
