hello all, I have a question regarding this old grinder I just picked up for rehabbing the various old chisels I have collected. my question is regarding the middle portion of the shaft that turns the wheel, there are three humps on this part and my have at some time had something attached to it possibly for stropping. has anyone seen or use this type of grinder? I am thinking of some how getting some leather on there to use for stropping. thanks for taking a look.

Mario,

Welcome to the Creek, your profile does not give a location.

The picture is kind of small to make out the details. This looks like a grinder that has an apprentice turn the crank and the person holding the tool works from the other side.

I do not see the three humps. The wheel would ideally be turning down to grind a tool. A strop would be going the other way.

its an old time mower sickle section sharpener, it originally had a stone that was taper both ways to sharpen two cutting edges at one time. They go for a dollar or so at farm auctions.
