To make some 8 inch wide white oak which was 1/8 inch thick, and 63 inches long I resawed a thick plank on a 14 inch Ridgid BS.... Normally it is limited to about 6 inch resawing, but if you remove the entire upper blade guide/guard there is 8 or 8 1/2 inches available.

I made the 4 slabs using a 1/2 inch Wood Slicer blade with no problems. I increased the tension from the 1/2 inch blade mark to the 3/4 inch blade mark, and fed at maybe half the normal rate, but made no other changes

The blade did not shift or twist, and it felt safe because the blade was buried in the wood.

Has anyone else done this? Is this an unsafe practice? Comments?

I use a riser block. Much safer, IMHO.
