I need a router cutter that is the opposite shape of a roundover bit. I'm guessing that's a cove bit?

Does the bearing come off of this bit most likely? I need it to have a flat top of the dome. I'm assuming the bearing unscrews leaving a flat top.

This bit will not be plunging (doesn't need to cut where the bearing would have been). But I don't know if the bearing rides a shaft that protrudes or if it's a flat top of the dome. Any ideas?

thanks,
Nick

Maybe what I'm looking for is a roundnose bit?

Sounds lke what you need is a bowl/tray bit.

It sounds to me that you're looking for a rule joint set, if you want an exact match. You can get close with a cove (non bearing or bearing) bit and closely matching round over, depending on how much radius you need.

When you remove the bearing, there will be a post protruding below the cutting edges. If you do not want this, you need to look at "core box" or "round nose" bits

Thanks! Just got one of those ordered. I saw that in the sign making kit on the front page and didn't know what it was called. Actually I have one in 1/2" OD but didn't know the name for it. Now I need one in 1" OD. Just got it ordered.

Thanks for the tip.
