Here's another humidor on its way to its new owner. This one is 1/4 saw Bubinga, Waterfall Bubinga, Quilted Maple and Spanish Cedar. Please enjoy and as always, your comments are very welcome. Have a great day.
(Sorry about the crappy photography.)

These tiles can be moved to separate and organize cigars.

The tray is a new twist on trays. More air flow and stronger due to the grain going both directions.

The figure on that Waterfall Bubinga and that Quilted Maple is fantastic.
Another fine example of what comes out of your shop Bill.
Thanks for the look see.

Thanks gary, I have another desk top that should be done in a week or so. I think you'll enjoy that one too. It's a little different than this one.

Bill, the inlay and those corners really distinguish your pieces. Of course, having the quality wood, constructed with superb craftsmanship doesn't hurt either!;)

Another museum quality piece from the undisputed master of humidors!!
Excellent choice of wood combinations, craftsmanship and IMO; photography. I don't know why you think your photos should be much better. I only wish mine were this good. Jim

Thank you everyone for the wonderful compliments. You guys have been my inspiration for years. I have to say thank you for that as well. More to come soon. I've got a Koa one I'm almost done with. The wood is incredible.

Bill,

Great looking piece... just beautiful!

What kind of finish do you put on your humidors? Do you put any kind of finish on the interiors?

Thanks for sharing with us.

Eric

Good question Eric. On a Humidor, the inside is raw Spanish Cedar. When a humidifier is put inside, the Spanish Cedar will absorb moisture and assist in the stablization of humidity at around 65% which is ideal for cigars.
As far as the finish goes, I spray on a shelac sealer then I use a water base dye to pop the grain. Next I brush on 6 coats of lacquer. Now I block it out with 320. Then brush on another 4 coats and start blocking out at 600 grit then down to 2000grit. Once the sanding is done, I use a rubbing compound and car wax to shine it up. The finish is as much work as the humidor but the results make for a beautiful look. Again, thanks everyone for the wonderful compliments. More to come soon.:D

Thanks for the info! Great results!

Don't you love that moment when you begin applying the finish and realize that you're really only half way done with the project... :)

That's when I have to tell myself "Just go work out in the shop for a few minutes" I really know it'll turn into a few hours but it's my way of tricking myself into getting my ass out there.:D

Beautiful work!

What kind / color of dye did you use? I have some similar maple and would be thrilled to get it to look half as good as yours.
